It's too early to say which faction will be the aggressor in whatever conflict the two have, if any, but it could very well be the United Colonies.

If the similarities continue, players could see the United Colonies becoming oppressive and heavy-handed just as the Imperials were, although whether or not they would be controlled by a more powerful organization, as the Imperials are by the Thalmor, remains to be seen. As one of the three major locations Bethesda has revealed for Starfield so far, it's more than likely a major presence in the game.

The United Colonies' capital, New Atlantis, is said to be a bustling city with inhabitants from all walks of life. Both seem deeply embroiled in politics and procedure, and seem to be the more organized of the two factions. In that respect, they seem to be akin to Skyrim's Imperials, who have maintained the biggest empire in Tamriel for over 300 years. Little has been revealed about Starfield and its factions so far, but it has been revealed that the United Colonies is the biggest one in the game, in terms of military strength and political influence. Skyrim's Imperials And Starfield's United Colonies Bethesda has revealed Starfield cities and settings for some of these factions. Unlike in Skyrim, however, players will be fighting in the infinite void of space, so the battlegrounds could span planets, if not entire galaxies. The main character will also likely play a major part in that war, and be able to join one faction or the other and achieve victory for them just as players do in Skyrim.

How long the Colony War lasted and how big it was has not yet been revealed, but given the information available so far, it's likely that another war will take place at some point during the events of the game. Related: Elder Scrolls 6: How Bethesda Making Starfield First Could Benefit The Game These are stated to be the biggest factions among the many in the game, and were engaged in a war known as the Colony War 20 years before the start of the game, despite having an uneasy peace when the game starts. Starfield's confirmed factions seem to mimic Skyrim's somewhat. In an overview trailer for the game, Starfield director Emil Pagliarulo describes an area called The Settled Systems, and two factions known as the United Colonies and the Freestar Collective. When players first enter Skyrim, they quickly learn that the country is in the midst of a civil war between the Imperial and Stormcloak armies, largely due to the Thalmor's insistence that the worship of the Nords' hero-god, Talos, be outlawed. How big has yet to be revealed, but given the fact that Starfield takes place in the vast reaches of space, it has the potential to be literally infinite. Starfield has already been likened to Skyrim by Bethesda, so it's likely that the game will have a war that's just as big as - if not bigger than - the previous mainline Elder Scrolls title. One of the major driving forces in The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim is its bloody civil war between the Imperial Empire and the Stormcloak Rebellion, but Bethesda's newest upcoming IP Starfieldjust might put that conflict to shame.
